Full-duplex
support allows the NC3120 to transmit and receive data
simultaneously at rates up to 20 Mbps for Ethernet and
200 Mbps for Fast Ethernet. Performance is further
enhanced with 6 KB of buffer memory, which makes for low
CPU utilization at high throughputs. Auto-sensing
capabilities enable it to automatically negotiate
between 10 and 100 Mbps to achieve the highest common
speed on the network!!

Industry-Standard:
The Compaq NC 3120 delivers industry-standard drivers
that are compatible with both Compaq and Intel Fast
Ethernet NICs.
Port Bonding:
Adaptive Load Balancing (ALB) and Cisco's Fast
EtherChannel are two port bonding methods supported by
the NC3120. ALB provides both failover and balancing of
transmit traffic across NICs for increased performance.
For even higher performance, Cisco's Fast EtherChannel (FEC)
provides port failover and balancing of transmit and
receive traffic across all NICs when connected to a
switch that supports FEC.
Bus-mastering:
This controller uses bus-mastering technology to
maximize throughput and minimize CPU utilization.
Security/Reliability
Network Fault Tolerance and
Auto-Correction:
The NC3120 network fault tolerance feature ensures that
the server can always keep an active link. After
installing a second, compatible NIC, if the primary
network connection fails, the second, backup NIC will
automatically take over—retaining the network
connection.
PCI Hot Plug:
PCI Hot Plug support enables the network controller to
be replaced or added to a server without powering down
the system. This feature provides increased system
availability and non-stop serviceability in
business-critical computing environments.
Network Management
Standards-based:
The NC3120 also provides standard SNMP MIB support, as
well as SmartStart support for Compaq server
installation. Network activity can be monitored remotely
with Compaq’s CNMS network management software, Compaq
Insight Manager, or any SNMP-compliant management
software.
The NC3120 supports DMI 2.0 (Desktop
Management Interface) for inventory control and asset
management. Additionally, the NC3120 has support for
Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM).
Boot ROM Support:
There is a socket on the Compaq NC3120 for Boot ROM
capability. Boot ROM support allows diskless
workstations to connect to the network, increasing
security and lowering the cost of hardware.

and PCI 2.1 support for conflict-free auto
configuration. With SmartStart support, NIC installation
