Windows for Workgroups 3.11 is a highly functional graphical operating system, providing a higher level of speed and stability than Windows 3.1, especially in networking environments. It can be difficult to learn how to use and configure, especially for computing novices. It provides a somewhat robust, extremely well-supported operating system for users who do not have the required hardware for Windows 95 or Windows NT, who run legacy applications that will not run properly under Windows 95 or NT, or who simply do not wish to migrate platforms.

• Microsoft Windows for Workgroups features the same user interface and general functionality of Windows 3.1, but enhances the operating system to support peer-to-peer networking and 32-bit file and disk access
• Workgroups includes mail, scheduling, and chat utilities that allow users to communicate over a network without an expensive server.

• Although Windows can run on a 286-class computer, it requires a 386 or higher with 2 MB or more of RAM to achieve full functionality and performance
• Most applications require a 386 or 486 class machine with at least 4MB of RAM (preferably 8MB)
• In addition, Windows for Workgroups performs best with at least 540K free conventional memory
